Demographic change is a fact of life for businesses in the United States. The Hispanic population alone is set to triple by 2050. And by 2023, populations that were once considered minorities will comprise more than 50% of all children.

DePaul Professor Loida Rosario is preparing a new graduate level course—“Strategic Planning for Multicultural Markets”—that will address the challenges and opportunities that marketers face as they address the needs of the rapidly growing demographic segments that represent changing profile of the typical American consumer.

Professor Rosario will present a preview of the course, including an overview of key topics and a focused exploration of emerging business strategy models for multicultural marketing. A 30-minute conversation will follow, where participants will have the opportunity to share their feedback, ask questions, and join in the creation of the course.

Please join us at the Exchequer for cocktails and further discussion following the event—as always, the first round is on KMG.

Loida Rosario Biography:

Professor Rosario serves on the faculty at DePaul University’s Kellstadt School of Business and consults with senior business managers in the areas of strategic planning, marketing, multicultural marketing and new product development.
Ms. Rosario has over 15 years of experience in the consumer goods, insurance, retail and information technology industries. Formerly, she directed product management and marketing functions at Colgate-Palmolive and AT&T, and serviced customers both in the U.S. and Latin America.

Ms. Loida Rosario is professionally certified in New Product Development by PDMA. She has a master’s degree in marketing and finance from the University of Illinois and has taught courses in Strategic Marketing, New Product Development, IMC Hispanic Markets and Services Marketing for five years at DePaul University. She is an entrepreneur, owner of El Coqui Galleries and a civic leader who currently sits on the boards of the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation and the Leap Learning Foundation. She is a member of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA).

Ms. Rosario is the co-founder of the recently announced Multicultural Marketing Program at DePaul University.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

The Sock Puppet Blues: An Evening With Jonathan Salem Baskin

Author, Branding Only Works on Cattle

It is a widely held belief in marketing circles that branding drives sales, and companies spend billions of dollars ensuring their brands maintain every ounce of their hard-won equity. But what if that isn’t enough? What if the mythology built up around branding no longer holds true? KMG welcomes branding expert Jonathan Salem Baskin to share his insight into the challenges facing modern brands, how to build them and why your cartoon mascot has got to go.

KMG IMMERSION SESSIONS

Are You Branded?

Feel lost in the crowd when it comes to positioning yourself to find that next, better job?
Are people saying that you need to build a personal brand? Tracy Sinclair, marketing practice leader at Aquent, and her team are in the business of matching marketers with the right opportunities. In this breakout session, you’ll hear their expert advice on cultivating your own brand.

When Your Customers Have the Keys: How Social Media Lets Consumers Drive Brand Conversation

Unsure about how to react now that your customers are driving the conversation? You’re not alone. Companies around the globe are trying to figure out how to manage their image in a time when social media platforms allow customers to have more influence on what people think about your brand. Much like giving a 16-year-old the car keys for the first time, letting your customers behind the wheel can be an anxious moment. Learn how to juggle your company’s presence on Twitter, Facebook and the blogosphere. Led by two of the leading lights in the social media field, Suzanne Claassen and Elizabeth Leonard are leading the reinvention of General Motors as overseers of the company's digital branding investment. Their insight into GM's current approach to the crucible of social media is not to be missed for those interested in finding out how social media engagement can help their brands -- in good times and bad.
